ETS Zeolite - Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Since Zeolite is a naturally formed rock and therefore “dirt”, why would I want to eat it?
Answer: A short answer is that this particular dirt is good for you (lots of studies actually exist suggesting that people ought to eat more dirt). Zeolite is an especially good dirt, since it supplies silica (very good for the joints) and detoxifies the body.
In giving a longer answer, you might want to know that zeolite is Sodium Aluminosilicate and GRAS listed (meaning that the government has reviewed zeolite usage and declares that it is safe for you to eat it). You might want to know that our zeolite is 95% to 98% pure clinoptilolite zeolite (see its assay), which is an exceptionally pure zeolite and that it has a very high CEC rating (180 meq/100 grams), showing that it has an unmatched ability to pull toxins out of the body.
The naturally occuring, aluminum, lead, titanium, copper, iron and other metals, etc. that are a part of our zeolite are all tightly bound in the zeolite crystal and are necessary to be there to give the negative electrical charge in the capillary structure. When zeolite goes through one’s body it will capture any free heavy metals, such as aluminum, lead, or titanium that it encounters. Toxins go into zeolite. They don’t go the other way.
Question: I have heard that zeolite is cancer causing, why would anyone eat it?
Answer: That would be like saying beans are poisonous. We know that most beans are edible while some are poisonous. There are 48 types of zeolite. A fibrous, white colored zeolite known as Erionite is a known cause of cancer. Even though erionite is a zeolite (i.e. has negatively charged internal tunnels) that particular zeolite is also most definitely a carcinogen. The type of zeolite that is useful in human detoxification is called clinoptilolite. Clinoptilolite is GRAS (generally recognized as safe) listed by the U.S. government and has been used for a long while (sice the Roman Aqueducts) with no bad consequences, and has great capacity to remove toxins from people, soil and water.
Question: What is the chemical composition of clinoptilolite zeolite?
Answer: Clinoptilolite’s exact chemical formula is: (Na,K,Ca)2-3Al3(Al,Si)2Si13O36·12(H2O). That translates into Hydrated Sodium Potassium Calcium Aluminum Silicate, also called Sodium Aluminosilicate for short.
Question: What is CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) and what is the significance of this value in terms of ETS Zeolite?
Answer: CEC is a way to measure and compare the power that a particular zeolite has to capture cations (positively charged particles such as mercury, lead, ammonia). CEC is determined or measured by putting a test substance (in this case, ammonia) in water solution, adding zeolite, then removing the zeolite through filtration and measuring the test substance (cation) remaining in the water. The more of that test substance that is pulled out of the water (i.e. the less that remains in the water after treatment with zeolite), the higher it’s CEC rating (or toxin pulling power). At 150 to 180 meq/100 grams, ETS Zeolite has the highest rating of all zeolites on the market. Liquid zeolites typically have less than 1 meq/100 grams.
The significance of this test is that there is simply no need for any zeolite vendor to convince prospective buyers with words. Just let them divulge their test scores in the CEC rating. We have seen sellers describing how finely ground their zeolite is or the extensive cleaning process it has been put through. That’s kind of like a wrestler strutting on the stage in a gorgeous costume explaining how he going to beat his opponent. Words and costumes are hype. Results are truth. The laboratory derived CEC rating, proof of detoxification capability is the only thing that counts.
So, all a seller has to do is reveal the CEC rating of their zeolite. The zeolite with the higher CEC rating is the one that is capable of doing more detoxification of your body.
Question: How does ETS Zeolite make contact with toxins in order to trap them?
Answer: ETS Zeolite makes contact with the blood as it passes through the villi of the small intestines. The villi have intimate contact with the bloodstream and it is through the villi point of contact that food we eat is able to enter the bloodstream. So, what happens is that while the zeolite is going through the alimentary canal with chyme (food particles), the zeolite cleanses the blood of toxic material, and then continues the path through gastrointestinal tract and is eliminated from the body in the stool.
- We have seven million villi that comprise the lining of the small intestines. These villi are where nutrients are handed off to the blood by the digestive system.
- More than any other place in the body except the lungs, the villi have intimate contact with the blood (one pint of blood per minute flows through the villi) as the blood comes into the small intestine villi tubules in order to pickup digested (ready-to-use) food.
- It is via the intimate blood/food contact of the intestinal villi that ETS zeolite is able to clear the blood of contaminants, as it attracts toxins into it’s negatively charged cage. Then the ETS Zeolite powder (and the captured toxins) continues down the gastrointestinal tract and are eliminated as part of the feces. ETS Zeolite never enters the blood stream.
Question: Does ETS Zeolite cross the blood-brain barrier?
Answer: No, zeolite does not enter the bloodstream. The idea that zeolite could enter into the brain area is absolutely incorrect. However, ETS Zeolite is constantly cleaning the blood supply, which helps detoxify all parts of the body including the brain.
Question: What does ETS Zeolite taste like?
Answer: It’s tasteless. When mixed in food or water, one cannot detect it by taste.
Question: Is ETS Zeolite a nutrient as well as a detoxifer?
Answer: Some people might call Zeolite a nutrient because it can deliver silica, calcium and potassium to the body. However, ETS Zeolite’s primary contribution to health is detoxification.
Question: Is the pale green color of ETS Zeolite significant?
Answer: Hmm... not really. Red, black, brown, green or white... all clinoptilolite zeolites are useful and safe for detoxifying the body. However, a good general statement would be that a colored zeolites will probably work better (have a higher CEC rating or toxin capturing power) than a totally pure, translucent zeolite. A completely pure zeolite would be translucent like glass and would have less toxin capturing power than a colored zeolite.
The majority of zeolites are gray or brown in color. The color of zeolite is imparted by the particular minerals that are part of the zeolite deposit, iron, copper, titanium, etc. and is not significant (except to those who write marketing copy — who may say their zeolite’s color is the best one). Zeolite color is the result of how light is reflected when it strikes the zeolite. This color is the result of the particular combination of minerals and silica making up the zeolite. Interestingly, zeolite gets its toxin attracting power color from the structure of silica and minerals within the zeolite rock. Those minerals are essential for zeolite to work. The various combinations of minerals can create red, blue, green, brown, black colored zeolites. But, instead of trying to judge by color (outward appearance) which is not very scientific, we simply say to judge by CEC rating.
CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) rating is what is significant in regard to zeolite (the power of a particular zeolite to pull toxins out of solution). CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) means how powerful is the “toxin pulling and trapping power” of zeolite, i.e., how much toxic material a zeolite can pull out of water solution (or out of the human body). That is a real measure of zeolite worth, not color.
Here’s an analogy. If a group of men all claimed to be the strongest, instead of believing their stories of strength, a better way would be to invite them to a weightlifting contest. The one who lifted the greatest weight would be the strongest, not the one with most impressive stories (markeing copy) or physique (outward appearance). So, CEC rating is what you want to know, not marketing hype.
We have heard of vendor stating that a green color of zeolite means that ingesting that particular zeolite would poison you with copper. This is utter nonsense, possibly designed to scare you away from any zeolite but that particular vendor’s zeolite. Inorganic minerals are captured by zeolite, not released. That is a basic fact about zeolite. If you don’t believe that, then you don’t understand zeolite’s ability to remove toxins from the body.
Our ETS zeolite rock/ore is 95%+ clinoptilolite zeolite, while most zeolite ores are only 60 to 70% pure zeolite. Clinoptilolite, itself, is translucent like glass. These minerals are tightly bound and do not come out of the zeolite when mixed with water or when eaten. The minerals are essential to the electrical attraction of the zeolite (which is what captures toxins).
Ranchers, who have the most practical experience with zeolites, believe that our zeolite is the most effective in producing healthy animals. This has not been addressed through studies, just the rancher’s account sheets showing their profits. But, the bottom line is that you shouldn’t believe in the color, just the CEC rating.
Question: How has ETS Zeolite overcome the problem of grittiness?
Answer: By grinding the zeolite to a powder consistency instead of a sand-like consistency as with some zeolites. The reason that we can get this flour-like consistency is because of our high quality, 95% pure clinoptilolite zeolite ore (compared to other zeolites that are only 60% to 85% pure)
- The zeolite (clinoptilolite) rock that is mined is very hard (because it is such a high grade ore).
- Because of its purity, it is able to be ground very fine.
- The fine grind enhances its detoxification capacity, by giving more surface area (which means more opportunity to attract toxins).
Question: I have heard that aluminum is bad for the body. So, since clinoptilolite contains aluminum, why would I want to consume it? That seems a contradiction?
Answer: Eating inorganic, free aluminum and aluminum salts isn’t a good idea, but the aluminum in ETS zeolite is not free. Therefore, it will not be digested or otherwise enter the blood. It is tightly bound in the zeolite crystalline structure.
- As a matter of fact, if ETS zeolite encounters aluminum ions or other heavy metal ions in the body it will trap them and carry them out of the body.
- Interestingly enough, many people wish that there were no heavy metals in zeolite, so they could feel more comfortable. Those same people daily eat without worry salt, which contains two terribly poisonous substances, sodium and chlorine. Sodium by itself can kill you and chlorine by itself can kill you. In fact, chlorine was used as a poisonous gas to kill enemy soldiers during World War I. Yet, we eat salt without fear because of the way salt is put together. The same principle applies to zeolite. It is going to benefit you, not hurt you.
Question: Who is ETS Zeolite good for?
Answer: We recommend ETS Zeolite for all of the following:
ETS Zeolite makes greener lawns and healthier plants, animals and people, both by increasing nutrition and especially by trapping harmful substances so that they do no damage. For instance, with plants, ETS zeolite prevents the uptake of arsenic and even radiation from the soil. As an example, after the Chernobyl reactor accident, the Russian government spread hundreds of millions of pounds of zeolite on the ground to trap the radiation. As a result, the foliage in this area has blossomed as never before.
Note that there is no known toxicity level for ETS Zeolite.
- However, we always encourage people to discuss their plans with a health professional who is treating you as a unique individual.
- We are not health care professionals, and more importantly, we are not your health care professional, and therefore cannot be responsible for your health decisions.
- Even if you were considering exercising, drinking more water or eating more fruits and vegetables, things that are commonly believed to be good for virtually everyone, there are dangers in the uniqueness of each individual.
- What is good for 999,999 out of 1,000,000 people might be bad for you.
- That’s why you would do well to discuss your health plans with a health care professional who knows you individually.
Question: How much ETS Zeolite is recommended to be consumed?
Answer: We recommend one to four teaspoon servings spread out during the day depending on a person’s “estimation” of their toxic load and depending on how one feels at a particular dosage. Zeolite will cause constipation in higher doses.
Since there is no known toxic level of zeolite, one could even take more zeolite than four teaspoons. Some people take up to ten teaspoons a day for a period of time. A possible gauge other than how one feels for determining a dosage could be the stool smell. A bad smelling stool means ammonia (a nitrogen compound) is present in the stool. Ammonia fosters bacterial and parasite growth. As long as there is no constipation, one can a dose that ensures that the stools have no ammonia smell.
Question: Is ETS Zeolite suitable for children’s use?
Answer: Yes. In fact, the Russian government gave zeolite to large numbers of children to detoxify them from radiation following the Chernobyl reactor meltdown. It is well known that by birth children have already absorbed a large amount of toxins from their mothers while gestating and continue to do so while nursing. We do recommend, however, waiting until a child is at least a year old and eating solid foods. We also recommend using smaller serving sizes than for adults, such as 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon for larger children.
Question: What are recommended ways to take ETS Zeolite?
Answer: Any which way. We recommend consuming ETS Zeolite in virtually any format - baked into cookies or bread, mixed in breakfast cereal, added to morning coffee, mixed in beverages of any type.
- Mixed in cookies was how zeolite was used to remove radiation from Russians who were contaminated after the Chernobyl incident.
- Zeolite ability to remove toxins is not disturbed by cooking or baking.
- Please note that “starting slower” is ALWAYS better. We recommend starting at 1/2 to one teaspoon per day and increasing slowly from there. Click here to see our recommend usage instructions.
Question: Can ETS Zeolite have an effect upon viruses, fungi or bacteria?
Answer: Yes, not much of an effect, and only for those that microorganisms that are small enough to be completely or partially trapped by the ETS Zeolite cage.
Question: Manufacturers of liquid zeolites claim that their zeolite suspended in liquid is superior to a powdered zeolite. What are the differences between liquid zeolites and ETS zeolite?
Answer:
- The first very important difference between liquid zeolites and ETS zeolite is that liquid zeolite costs 200 times more than ETS Zeolite, gram for gram.
- The second difference is that liquid zeolites are usually claimed to be “cleaner” going through ultra purification processes. This cleaning supposedly enables their zeolite capture more toxins than can uncleaned, natural, powdered zeolite. Ultra clean sounds very nice to modern day people, especially to women.
- The third difference is that liquid zeolite claim to have such small zeolite particles that these particles will enter the bloodstream and go into the brain as well.
Our product on the other hand is:
- 200 times less costly per gram of zeolite.
- Naturally clean. We do a minor amount of filtration and we sterilize the zeolite. Other than that, it is just the way nature made it.
- Our CEC rating is higher — over a hundred times greater than that of liquid zeolite (180 Meq/100 grams versus 1 Meq/100 grams). CEC means cation exchange capacity. It is how much cation (positively charged particles such as heavy metals) can be captured by the zeolite. CEC tests are done with ammonia.
- Our zeolite particle size was chosen to be large enough to not go into the blood stream, and also chosen based on maximum CEC rating. Larger particles of zeolite result in lower CEC ratings and also smaller particles result in less CEC rating.
Question: What factors are there to consider when choosing a zeolite supplement?
Answer: Just take a zeolite. Don’t overly worry about which one. Our bottom line is that taking virtually any zeolite is better than taking none. Beyond that we look at benefit per cost ratio. With ETS Zeolite you get more zeolite in a single, teaspoon-size serving (5 grams of zeolite) than you get in an entire month’s supply of liquid zeolites. You get a higher capacity to remove toxins. You get real world results. For instance, in the animal husbandry industry, zeolite fed dairy cows live several times longer than other cows.
We recommend to not worry, not just get going with zeolite. In the end, your body will be cleaner and your health better. It’s kind of like worrying about which brand of bread you’re going to eat today. You can think about it, or just buy and eat, and spend your time in other things than deliberating your choices of bread, or zeolite.
Question: What do you think about other manufacturers’ claims that their micronized zeolites will enter the bloodstream and cross the blood brainer barrier?
Answer: We do not believe it would be a good thing for zeolite to enter the bloodstream and especially shiver at the thought of zeolite in the brain. Inorganic particles in the blood stream must be removed by the kidneys, the human body’s blood filtering system. We ask why put extra work on the kidneys? Why do that?
Working within the villi of the small intestines, powdered zeolite (that is not micronized) has intimate contact with the blood. Blood circulates through the villi every second, coming to collect food. Through this intimate contact, zeolite particles contact the blood and attract into the zeolite cage the toxins that are in the blood. The zeolite then carries the trapped toxins out of the body through the feces, all without putting anything in the blood stream that then has to be filtered out by the kidneys. This is all very safe. And, it works, effectively, simultaneously cleaning the blood and the intestines.
